Yup, we're going to try and bust this out in one day. I think it's doable since we'll start early, have the lift and air tools. All are welcome, I live out near Nissan Pavillion so it's good Porsche exercising country.

Since Mike wants to take off the half shafts, is there something special about a LATE Carerra that I should know? Some special tool for the different attachment? (My SC is just 6 hex bolts.

Mike, maybe you should start a new thread?

Done.

As for the drive shaft bolts, I have a combination (its a long story as to why) of hex bolts and the tripple square (which I have). Shouldn't be anything special. 6 bolts per side of each drive shaft. 24 in all.

Mike, please let me point out that if you are planning on taking out the half shafts you only have 12 #8 (if I remember correctly) hex bolts. These are the ones that bolt up to the either side of the differential and you will also need a 32mm socket to remove the nut on the other end of the axle shaft that goes into the hub. This is the one that needs 320ft/lbs torque so make sure that you have a good cheater bar because it's tight.

Mike #2 is right - you have late Carrera axles which do NOT have 6 bolts on the outside CV, but rather one giant nut that you need a nice impact gun to get off. The inside CVs are held on with 6 M10 bolts (8mm allen). Don't know if your's have been frankenstiened to something else, but that's what comes from the factory.

Damn it.... which would explain why... damn it.

This is what I get for not having the car in front of me when I order parts. I'll check this weekend, but am guessing you guys are right.

Ok, so is that giant nut reusable? Doubt the car has been altered much.

Yes. You should use new M10 bolts, though. M10 x 50mm according to PET. No gaskets.

Not an issue, I have 24 b/c I assumed the design was the same as a 944S2.

Nut is replaceable... no wait you meant the axel nut It can be reused. If no air tools my 5' breaker bar on my 3/4" drive socket will loosen the nut with ease. Don't forget I have the "big" torque wrench too if needed

Fixed that for you... by torque wrench, I assume you mean BFH

I got the nut off of the 944 by using a similar breaker bar and standing on it. Somehow, I think I will need your tools assistance.
