Default Box Brake Pads

Any of you fellow Box owners use Mintex OEM brake pads? There's cheap on Pelican, but wondering if anyone has any experience with them.

Not on the Box. I did use them on my 911 as a street pad. I didn't like them at all. Miserable feel, no bite, too much dust. Poster child of "you get what you pay for". They are dirt cheap for a reason.

Go OEM for street use -- they are very good. Get a good track pad for DEs (e.g., Pagid, PF, Hawk, etc.).

Some say Hawk HPS are a decent dual use pad (aggressive street, light track duty)... but that is me just repeating what I've heard, no direct experience.

What brand are the OEM pads?

Chris -- there aren't a whole lot of Boxsters on this BB, and several are pretty new to the owners. Toby and his brother are the only ones seriously tracking one that I know of. We had a few active Boxster posters last year -- primarily a few guys seriously into autocrossing, but they haven't posted much lately. So it may take a while to get answers to some of your Boxster questions right now. Lucky is a new owner, but true to form he seems to have immersed himself and is rapidly gaining a lot of knowledge. Racer Dave also just had one for a year or so, and seems to have done quite a bit of learnin'. But you still may want to suppliment by reading up on some of the bigger BBs for general Boxster info.

What are you trying to do, street or track or both?

I've never used Mintex but I have used Pagid Orange and Hawk Blue for track stuff. I put the Porsche OEM pads back on for street use.

I have Pagid pads I took off...mostly street driving they were too squeely. So I changed to HPS pads, they feel good to me. Then again they are not on a Boxster so your results may vary.

Bingo! Chris -- it would be helpful if you indicate if this was for street-only, or for mixed use. Although, since you will be new to DEs next year, sticking with a street pad would probably be best, at least until you have 2 - 3 events under your belt.

I'm also a member of 986forum as well. I try to get my questions out to a few venues, so that way I hit a larger number of owners in general.

SilverStreak, I'm looking for just street use. I'll grab a second set of pads for track when I'm ready for it. For now, the Box is my daily driver.

Hey Chris,

For daily driving I will stick with stock pads. They stop the car well during spirited driving or even AX. It may be more expensive, but brake pads last a long time if you don't use it on track.

If you are changing pads (which I am not sure you need to), make sure you install it with new anti-squeal shims. (or the factory glue for them. Brake quiet doesn't work.) It's a pain to change brake pads with the shims in place, but if you leave them out even stock pads will be quite noisy.

I use Pagid Yellows for the track. They have worked so well I haven't found a reason to try anything else.

Hope this helps.

Toby
