Hey gang,

My wife just bought an '05 Saab 9-2X Aero...so we need to get rid of her daily driver. I'm going to put her Passat up on Craigslist, but wanted to see if anyone here has interest first. I'm going to put it up for $4500-5000, but I'll sell it to anyone in the dorki community for 4K.

Here are the details:
'99 Passat GLX V6 - Black Exterior/Tan Interior
110K Miles
Auto/Tip
6 Disc Changer
Leather Seats/Seat Heaters
Good belts/Rubber/Brakes etc - lots of recent work, this car will run w/ no TLC necessary for a long time

I have the title in hand and all receipts from Day 1. My wife and I bought it from her Dad a year ago, he's a doctor and put most of the miles on the car driving on the highway to work.

Just got a response from craigslist...what do you guys think, does this sound like its on the "up and up"

Just heard something on WTOP this week about a rash of counterfeit checks that ebay sellers have been dealing with. As long as the check clears, I guess you're in the clear.

Not quite - problem with the cashier's check scam is that it might take 2-3 weeks before the bank comes back to you and wants their money back. The check "clears" and the money gets put into your account, but then you're screwed later, and by then the buyer is long gone with your car (and any delta $ you paid him from the check).

There can be problems with cashier's checks even when they are totally up and up. I never dreamed that could happen. The guy who bought my sequioa -- nicest guy by the way -- gave me a cashier's check that later bounced (not due to lack of funds btw), which overdrew my account since I bought the club coupe right after depositing it and then LEFT THE COUNTRY. So here I am in another country with an overdrawn account (I have overdraft protection . . . but still).

So . . . be careful. Cashier's check is NOT the same as cash.
