More Details: What’s better than an event that fuses seeing historic aircraft in a museum and driving your Porsche? An event that includes seeing historic aircraft in action and driving your Porsche!! Porsches at the Festival of Freedom Air Show is such an event. The Festival of Freedom Air Show features World War 2 aircraft from the famed "Wings of Freedom” squadron (formally known as the Confederate Air Force) and includes famed aircraft such as a B-25 Mitchell, a B-24 Liberator, a B-17 Flying Fortress, a P-51 Mustang, a British Spitfire and much more. In addition, the show features a display of WW2 tanks and other hardware. To make the day run smoother, our club has arranged private parking at the Air Show where we will be hosting a “dirty” Concours. There will be 25+ aircraft participating. Personalized tours through the bombers will be provided. Where else can you witness the sounds and beauty of such aircraft in action? We'll begin the day by exercising our Porsches through the backroads of VA (the drive will be about 75 miles) leading to the Air Show, then do another drive leaving the show to have lunch at Redcreek Grill in Centreville, VA. Redcreek Grill was nice enough to give us a private area for lunch and reserved parking. Plus, we will be watching a Porsche movie over lunch. Registration Fee is $10 per car, then pay as you go. (The $10 goes to providing more events and is paid the day of the event.) For real aircraft buffs a flight in one of the bombers is available, but must be arranged in advice through the Wings of Freedom people. (Flight Cost - $400 and is optional, NOT REQUIRED TO BE IN CAR EVENT). Call me for more info about the rides. Hope to see you there. If you have any question, call Kevin Sims at 703 830-4285 or email him at porsche_driving_club@yahoo.com Event Presented by the Porsche Driving Club. No Politics, Just Driving. |

The WW2 Bomber ride is optional. The regular event cost is very reasonable. $10/car for registration, $10/person for the air show, and around $15 or so for lunch. This includes two driving tours, the air show, and lunch. There is also live music at the air show, plus you can walk in the WW2 bombers. All inclusive in the price.
I agree $400 is a bit much for a flight in a bomber. I tried to get a group rate, but it didn't happen. I don't plan on doing the ride either. But for someone who is a huge aircraft nut it would be a ride of a lifetime. So, I thought it important to post the info. To put things in perspective, If someone offered a Carrera GT or a 917 drive for $400 bucks I'd pony up the dough in a heart beat. But that's just me. I hope everyone enjoys the show. It will be a great time. |

I agree, I think it is definitely worth the money to pilot a 917, to me that would be a once in a lifetime experience worth every cent 8) . |

Kevin,
What does the $10 registration cover? Parking? I might join you all for the drive since you'll be in my 'hood. I'm still learning the back roads, but I know of a few you should try Steve

The $10 covers event costs and helps in paying for additional events. The Dulles Museum event I did cost me some money. Things like promo post cards, tour route printing, postage, facility deposits, etc. I'm hoping to cover my expenses for this event.

Kevin - You're the best!! I was anxiously awaiting news of the next driving event. Now that I've had the HPDC, I need to practice nailing the elusive apex, although I've gotten pretty good at it with a shopping cart at Giant
This is the Annapolis Boatshow weekend, so I'm not sure what my schedule is. I'll let you know as soon as I work it out! I know the Green Flash wants to come out and play!!

A little OT but I met your boyfriend at the HPDC. He and I were volunteering at the slalom course. We were chatting it up at his station until they moved me to the in-line section......then I was running around all morning (still sore). BTW: You can thank me for not subjecting you to the embarrassment of the Golden Cone award (you actually did very well)

Yes I agree. The GREEN FLASH needs to play. You know what they say, All work and no play makes "GREEN FLASH " a dull boy. I hope to see the three of you in Oct. Oh, I almost forgot. The roads for this event are going to be esspecially fun. Plus, there are 2 tour route during this event. Double your fun.
See ya |

Wish I could attend, but if all goes well, I'll be running a 26.2 mile race in Baltimore on that day
