Need to heat the heck out of my dilavars! Mapp/oxy isn't cutting it! So, now onto O/A. Don't worry, I am a certified welder in NY (yeah I know I'm in MD now).

I had to get off the phone quickly when you called. A bunch of family showed up and left behind two more kids. We are seriously outnumbered 2 parents - 5 kids. Sometimes I'm glad I have to go to work.

I do have a torch and gauges but no bottles. What do you have to do to get the bottles these days? I know roberts oxigen used to deliver them to our shop, but that was 15-20 years ago.
If you can get the bottles you can barrow the stuff.
We'll have to check it out.

What does the gas cost? We used to get the big bottles O2 were about 4' tall and the axl bottles were about 2/3 that size.
small tanks would be fine for the occasional use.

I have no idea what they cost. I'd probably have to pick them up since I am not a business. I can call and find out.

You sure you want to use OX/acetylene on an aluminum or magnesium case? This setup can easily melt al or posabily ignite a mag case. My understanding of the reason for the heat is to thermal expand the metal and melt the locktite used on the stud threads. This should be well within the BTU output of a standard propane torch. Try heating the case and cooling the stud with liquid wrench then turning the stud. Some times it takes a heat cycle or two to get things moving. I have a full gas welding and cutting rig and you are welcome to bring the case over to remove the studs. I keep the rig at work and will bring it home if you need it. No warranty on the outcome!

Most gas sellers require that you purchase a tank and then bring it back when empty for an exchange. First time through you pay for the tank and a fill thereafter only for the fill.

Kurt, Several pelicans reccomended O/A and since I went through 2 1/2 oxygen tanks trying to get out 1 stud using mapp/oxy, I've gotten to the point where O/A seem s my only hope. I have been heating them in the right spot. The only trick I haven't tried is Wayne's cooling the stud with canned aair upside down. DO you think I should give it one more try with this technique? BTW it is an aluminum case and the mapp/oxy didn't have any effect on it even with the 25-30 mins of constant heat on that one stud. Oh, and I am down to 5 on one side only. The other side only had one stubborn one. Thanks!

Things are slowing down with the kids sports so more time for my project.
