Thumbs up Throwback ... Bridgehampton, NY (1995)

Saw this linked over on RL and really brought back some memories.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UjRyFotFR9c

Some of you may have driven it in the day [BillJ...? others?] and can stroll down memory lane too. The "Bridge" is in Long Island, NY and I used to take the ferry from CT across the L.I. Sound to get there instead of driving into NYC and back out the "island". Trailers on ferryboats ... fun, fun, fun

Fun FAST track that punished you if you went off [yes, those are sand dunes and tires like to dig into sand during off-track excursions ].

Had a R suspension failure there for my 1st real off back in the eighties. 1 BBS rim half, some FG and car was good to go. Took days to get the sand out of my suit, hair, mouth, etc...

Brings back several good memories. I believe the race track is now a golf course.

I could have driven the bridge but never did . Then again, I liked my car Seen the results of a few offs there and they were never all that pretty. That soft sand can roll a car pretty quickly.

Follow this link for a brief history of the track.

Bridgehampton Race Circuit

Bridgehampton Race Circuit was a 2.85 mile, 13 turn road course located near Sag Harbor, on Long Island in New York State. The historic track has now largely been converted to golf course. There is still an effort underway to try and restore the track, but success seems unlikely.

"All who have raced there know that the earth is flat and ends in the sand at turn two. The emotional rewards of driving this turn 'flat out' are just as intense as the physical consequences of blowing it". - Bruce MacInnes, Chief Instructor, Skip Barber Racing School.

PS: If you couldn't tell, I'm originally from LI

That was my first instructor at skippy school back in '86 or so ... Can still remember his voice when we were at LRP in the van watching the other half of the class [including my older brother] drive the left hander [or my brother spinning on three consecutive laps there ...] - Bruce turns and looks at me and says, "In this particular exercise Jason ... it would be best if you did NOT do what you brother is doing!!!

I made it three laps before I spun in the left hander

I was talking to my dad about turn 9 at summit about how many cars it has eaten this year. He broke into one of his stories about " back in the day ... when i was a young whipper snapper learning to drive at bridgehampton i was going down the straight in my AC bristol thinking i was hot sh*t, braking through turns one and two and accellerting out of them. then my instructor got in the car and said hold on, as she went through those turns flat out, foot on the floorboard never toughing the brakes, using only the steering wheel to make slight corrections. As my dad's instructor got out of the car she just said, ' " i hope that helped " his instructor happened to be Janet Guthrie.

I missed out on Bridge before it closed down. The yella fella had plenty of sandblasting on the windscreen from that place though

I believe the author of the video, and the driver, is Ronnie Savenor.

<edit> Just saw the Rennlist thread; it is Ronnie.
