Depends on what you're trying to strip and how fast. Wood? Steel, Aluminum? Plastic? Home Depot and Lowes will have the common hazardous chemicals, Mattos or another body shop place will have more exotic stuff.

i want it very fast acting... what's fast, anyway? a day? and it's for metal.

is Mattos a chain or is the Gaithersburg location the only one?

I think there are a couple locations for Mattos, the only one I go to is the one in Rockville on Gude drive.

Sounds like aircraft stripper might be your best bet. If its a small item, carborator cleaner also works as a hell of a paint stripper - this is how I de-painted several of my suspension parts during the rebuild.

We all want everything fast. Can't always get what you want.

What kind of coating are you trying to remove? BTW "Paint" is not an answer. What kind of paint if you know. What are you removing the coating from? "Metal" is not a full answer as well. What might be OK for body work would trash a wheel. What might work on a wheel would take forever on a body. You want fast? Get a torch and a putty knife. Fast but ugly and a stink to die from.

Home Depot sells a safe stripper that I have used that works well. Orange based and scented. You glob it all over and let it sit overnight. The next day hose it and the loose coating off and down the drain. No stink, no sanding no wire brushing no missing skin or brain cells. I used it on a set of rims and it kicked ass.

Can it be used for the interior of the car (after removing the carpets, to get the paint off as well as remaining glue, etc)? I'm still procrastinating on stripping on te interior on my SC...

LOL, ok Kurt. I'm sold. Sounds like the orange goop is for me. (My kitchen sink, and neighbors, will thank me for it, right?)

Do you remember the name of the stuff?

I'm trying to clean up some ratty calipers I have that someone decided to spray paint. The "paint" does not seem to be durable (can scratch it off easily) but if I'm going to clean them I may as well get as much of the stuff as I can from all the nooks and crannies. Saves the scrubbing chore.
