Assuming your talking about your ’88? If it’s the cast iron pipe connecting the right side heat exchanger to the left, across the back of the engine then no. It’s flanged on both ends but will likely require you to cut the nuts of the bolts. If you are referring to the air cross over at the front of the engine it has two high temp hose connectors and also should not require removing the whole system. Though removing the muffler might make it simpler.

Cutting off the nuts might be required, I know the bolts on mine were frozen solid. Are you replacing with the same part?

Thank you for the reply!
Yes, were are talking about my 88. I'm replacing my exhaust system from the heat exchangers back. All of the bolts were rusted and needed to be cut off (PITA). While trying to knock what was left of one of the bolts through the flange of the crossover pipe I managed to break the actual flange loose! Not supposed to happen.....right? Last night I cut the bolts and removed the "flangeless" crossover pipe from my car (another PITA). Now I'm wondering if the new OEM replacement will fit between the heat exchanger and bottom of the motor. I hope I dont have to drop the heat exchanger out of fear of breaking studs!!! My dad broke 6 while putting SSI's on his 73 911 and my uncle broke several when replacing his exchangers on his 78 930. I'm not trying to join the club. Thank you again for the feedback!!! Mark
