Default Squeek coming from engine area

I just drove home from the health club and I noticed a squeeking sound. I opened the engine lid and couldn't pinpoint the exact location.

Would an alternator squeek as it starts to go bad?

Could be:

Alt bearings

Alt brushes

Heater fan bearings

Mouse caught behind the fan

A more complete description of the "squeak" would help us hone in on the source, but one thing (among many) that it could be is... the engine lid rubbing on the lip running around the engine bay. Look for any spot where the paint is missing and you see nice polished metal.

Does the sound have a cadence? That is does it go up down or harmonize at certain RPMs in tune with the motor? Does it happen when you change direction or go over uneven road surface?

Look at the alt fan placement it can move down and touch the housing slightly and make all kinds of irritating sounds.

Do you have the little black plastic wheel that runs on the fan belt? It can fail and squeek too.
