Default Help! Can't separate the alternator from the housing...

Hi,

I'm in the middle of replacing the alternator in my '87. I got the fan/alternator/housing out of the car, but for the life of me cannot separate the alternator/fan from the housing....
Any ideas? Is anyone just sitting home bored looking to wrench?

Ok...dropping it carefully on a block of wood did the trick

Before reinstall, check to make sure you didn't crack one or two of the brushes on the regulator during the removal from the housing. Ask me how I know...

Easy to check now......but would suck to find out after reinstalling everything.

Also, since we have all experienced this 911 phenomenon, use anti-sieze where they mate, sparingly but covering the entire surface.

Also, make sure you align the neew alternator in the housing correctly or you will get another chance to remove it from the housing

ok...alternator done! thanks for the tip on alignment. I did have to go back at one point. For a pretty straight forward job it sure took a long time...
