Default Outage / Migration

The board will be going down and then over to its new home this weekend. This will be good for at least a year (since I paid for it up front this time). I will have to shut the board down to migrate the database (your posts etc). I expect to get to this tonight, but at the latest it will happen by sunday. A redirection will be put into this site at its conclusion to take you to the new site until the domain propogates to its new IP address.

Thanks and sorry about the down time,

Geoffrey

Geoff,
Some of us know, some may not be aware about how you paid for this site in the past. If you would like us to kick in some coin for future operations, please let us know where to send it to. The education, comraderie, and general BSing are well worth it.
Steve

Default I stand corrected

Well the web host was not a good deal do to some severe limitation I was unaware of. So this migration will not be taking place at the current time. However Charlie and I may still have some tricks up our sleeve. Does anyone in the group know slackware better than me or Charlie?

Thanks ahead,
Geoffrey

Can't help with the internet alchemy but I would like to pitch in some bucks towards defraying costs.

I second the motion to set up a way for fellow Dorki to pitch in. We can't exactly come over on a Sat and do a CPU drop but $ can fix many things and perhaps make maintaining the BBS a little easer.

Default Home Based

Kurt / Steve,

Thanks for the offer. I will gladly take you all up on it. I will have to think about how to work a way to take donations. The board will be moving to my house after all I think. Jumpline has been a good provider, but we are outgrowing the reseller account and I would like to have the added functionality of running the server. Charlie and I talked about colocating the server, but if I will be responsible for the maintenence it will be easier and cheaper to keep it at the house. I have currently got a 384/384 line into the house for this purpose and a dedicated slackware server (linux variant). I do know a decent bit about linuix / and can defintely handle all the iterations of web stuff so this may be a good mix.

Anyway I'll keep you all posted as I walk down this somewhat frustrating path. Sorry to keep pushing back the dates etc...

Btw due to some requests I think the advertising will be going bye for now, we weren't making anything doing it, just providing some plugs for people charlie liked and thought were good etc, but since the adverts seem to cause some issues with resolution they will be stripped away from the next iteration.

If there is a graphic designer or graphics person in the bunch this is a good time to pitch design schemas around. There is nothing wrong with sticking with the standard PHP feel, however if you all want something more personalized I could handle that when the move over and new board is installed.

Anyway thanks again,
Geoffrey

Geoff -

Don't hesitate to let us know what the annual cost is as I'm sure there are many die-hards who would be more then happy to kick in $$$$ to cover the costs.

Just give us an address to send the checks

Geoff, I'm down to throw in some money if needed. Is there a way to change the color scheme or look so that this board won't look like some newer ones that are popping up? i.e. http://www.quelle911.com/phpBB2/
Thanks for maintaining this BBS Geoff!

Imitation is the highest form of flattery

G-man . . . . let me know where to send the check.

Thanks for sticking with it.
