Anyone know how much I should expect to pay to have all 6 coils replaced in my 2003 996?? They also plan to replace the plugs while they're in there.

The part online is about $42. This is a true DIY project. Why all 6?

I paid $280 for all 6 for my 996TT at Suncoast Porsche.

I had misfire codes on 3 cylinders. Shop said they now use the 997 coils in the 996 so they needed to replace all 6.

Ouch. My quote was $864. Why such a huge difference? This is a reputable shop. Intersport in VA.

Suncoast Porsche is a dealer that discounts for mail-order. That price likely does not include installation, and if Larry installed them himself, it's a really simple DIY (okay, so not really joking about this).

Also, Intersport is one of the best shops around. They're not particularly expensive, but they're not exactly cheap either (except for my corner balancing - great deal). In my experience, with P-car shops, you get what you pay for OR LESS. Matt de Maria (or working myself or with other Dorkis) are the only places where I feel I get MORE than I pay for. Intersport is fair and excellent - and I had an excellent but not perfect experience with IMA about 8 years ago (the engine on which the top end was rebuilt is the one that pulled 200 HP to the wheels a couple of weeks ago--but no experience with IMA since). But beware, there are some shops around that are every bit as expensive as Intersport and IMA (or even more expensive) that don't know what they're doing.

Yeah. I just found the ignition coil on Pelican and 6 of them is about $270. Add say $60 for the plugs that makes $330 for parts. So $534 for labor??? How long should a job like this take a shop?

Couple of hours minimum and dealer not likely to get their parts from Pelican.

$864 includes parts and labor to change the plugs and coil packs I believe. That sounds about right for a checkbook mechanic.
