haha exACTLY what i was thinking when talking to them yesterday.

just found something - before i got a small chip tune 5yrs ago, my local shop did a baseline which is higher than what Raby calls his standard. but i'm not sure if that was a max run, or an average, etc., plus i know all dynos are different so who the heck knows. anyway, the base HP/TQ on that old file was 301/261, if i am reading it right. looking at my scribbled notes from yesterday, my new "average on 30 or so pulls is 320/280". but i have no idea if he was quoting me an avg over some part of the curve, a peak average, yadda yadda. i'm pretty sure there's a detailed data file coming home with the car.

here's the dyno. again, i have little (read: "no") idea about most of what i'm looking at nor will my feelings get butt hurt so feel free to dissect it, critique it, and school me. one thing i do notice: altho i'm not really hung up on absolute peaks, for some reason i thought the TQ band (betw 4k - 5k) would be wider? or is that "pretty damn wide" as far as track performers go? but i do like how i don't need to go near red line to get the power. sure, i will have to relearn all my track shift points/street driving comfort, but it's all good in the hood. the car feels good to me on street but i know that is zero indication on how it will feel on track when the RPMs are up constantly.

The torque curve is not nearly as flat as some of the BMW tunes for NASA racing, but they achieve those by actually backing down on power ('detuning') to help stay below certain horsepower/ weight ratios.

Not sure why such a dip at 5500, but as long as you can mentally drive through that and wait until 6500 to shift I think you will be happy.

yep. i fig'd maybe it was a trade off for hitting peak at lower RPM or something.

that's what i'm thinking.

i also feel a little boggy around town in the lower RPMs, lower gears, but again he (and i) couldnt care less about street driving behavior. staying in the sweet spots on track was the goal.

i also should note that he offers tuning services for i-forget-how-much (but prob close to, if not over, 4 digit$) but he said i "didnt need it". point being he could have easily upsold me but he's happy with how it turned out / is in line with his usual builds.

Looks pretty simple, you should try and exit all turns just below 4K. And any where else you want to get a good jump! Looks like shifts ~6,5K - 7K will work best too.

Vario-cam and Vario-ram switching over. They all do that. On the 997.1S that I had previous the dip in torque wasn't noticeable even in the higher gears since HP was climbing. Of course the dip doesn't appear on any factory literature including the dyno chart in the owner's manual. LOL
