Interesting observation.....Since having my own track experiences, I've noticed that watching races is more appealing since I have a more personal connection, particularly on tracks that I've also been on (which of course is NONE of the current F1 circuits....... ). I like watching the driving lines used, and how passes are executed.

if you do have a better way to do this, then i suspect you would make millions in about a day-and-a-half if you contacted certain teams.

There's a difference here -- Larry does DEs, and you actually race. You connect more with the racecraft. Larry watches and says to himself "I don't know why they don't trade those cars in for a 996TT so they can be fast."

Current F1 performance relies heavily on aerodynamics. In 2007, the Ferrari guys discovered that the turbulence created by the front wheel rotation and brake cooling airflow was a problem worth solving. They created the first stationary hub plate, which was gradually picked up by a number of teams.

Its not a cooling duct. In fact, part of its purpose is to control the outflow from the [inboard] cooling ducts to reduce turbulence.

Dave, you know me too well.

You guys have all been tracking longer than me. I guess it's the newness of actually driving all out that has me excited about the experience, rather than just watching. No doubt watching is learning, it's just not as thrilling. But I'm preaching to the choir on that point.

Its hard to appreciate the skill level involved in driving an F1 car. Its plainly NOT something that even a very good, experienced driver can step into easily.
Chris Harris is a very good driver. He has a ton of Porsche and other marque race experience, he races a Cup car in the VLN race series [11 races/year at the Nurburgring] and has driven the Porsche RS Spyder at Le Mans. Not too shabby.
