The turbo plumbing is a little confusing to the untrained eye. I would lean it up, act stupid and go by the emissions station to see if they will hook it up to the sniffer. There are few rural places left in VA. that will hand over the tag decals without some sort of emissions inspection. Leesburg busted me for not having the belt on my air pump 5+ years ago.

I have a freind with a so called organic farm in Dickerson. Some how he qulifies for farm tax credits and doesn't even have to register his pickup "ole brown". You just have to be willing to get some orange traffic paint and spray "farm use" on the door. He also get's tax free "pet-troll-um" products.
Recently they paid him close to a million to agree not to develop the property for like 25 years.

So all he has to do is continue to grow "organic" stuff for the next 25 years. Even with the money in the bank he still acts like he doesn't have 2 quarters to rub together.

Do a search on "Franconia" and you'll see where to take the car. Station owner has a 993 C2S and is very Porsche-owner friendly.

I went through this with my 930 about a year ago. I put the factory muffler back on, but didn't have the air pump hooked up and don't have any of that plumbing installed. He tried to do a visual, which actually amounted to shining a flashlight around the engine compartment.

I failed without the cat installed, went back a few weeks later with it installed (but O2 sensor unplugged). I failed again, but simply leaned it out while he ran the next car through. It barely idled, but passed with little-to-no reading on the dyno. Once done, I reset the mixture (in a bank parking lot next door) and drove home.

I took mine('81 Euro) to "Franconia" and it breezed through, shocked the cr@p out of me. I would give them a try whats the worse, you fail but at least you know it. I took mine through after the first Dorkii meet, come on down next Saturday and then go on through.

Interesting, I have a Euro 930 with Euro headers. I know I can pass the smog test but the visual, hmmm! Does all stations require visual to pass now a days?

I've never had anyone look for any equipment on my cars in VA.

Thanks for all the replies! Can't wait to join PCA/Potomac and get in an organization as friendly as this...

What is this Franconia? This a shop or you referring to the region around Springfield? I also read about the place in Tysons Corner...

My mechanic was having to fabricate the hi flow cats but as it turns out he found the last successful emissions test slip in Cali (someone must have been paid off) which was done within the year, so I'm gonna use that to register the car. I have my fingers crossed...

Regards,
Quentin
