I have a Breitling, but it cost a small fraction of what that Breitling Bentley goes for.

I just look at my plain old cheapo bar type cell phone. Watches don't last long around me for some reason. They get banged up or worse.

Besides as was said by T Chong. "I'm not into time"

I have a bit of a watch fetish with 7, but definitely not an that cost scale! I mostly spring for the Kenneth Cole brand, as they have decent looks and whenever something has broken they stand behind it every time! Do want to get my hands on a perpetual motion though at some point - batteries are a pain in the ass. Have been looking for a decent dive/soccer ref/car watch with a yellow face for a while, but have yet to find the one that really grabs me.

Same here, I've got a New Pluton ref: 3100. It's ~15 years old. It's their low-end model (quartz movement) but it's water resistant to 20 ATM!! So it makes for a good diving watch. Probably costs less than the strap on the one in the article!

I have always wanted to get a watch that I could hand down to a son. Now that I have twin boys, I am not really sure how to do that. I mean, it is sorta stupid to have two watches that are identical. On the other hand, it could cause problems if they get different watches. I could just buy them identical watches, but that seems to be meaningless. The whole idea is to hand them something that has meaning because it was part of their father's life for so long. I have been trying to convince my wife that I should get identical collectable Porsches -- maybe 356s -- that I could give them when I get too old to drive them Now I just need to win the lottery.

Maybe these uber-expensive watches do something other than just tell time, but I can't see spending that kinda coin on one.

I figure it like this, you buy an uber-expensive watch and then you have to hang around other watch afficianados just so they can appreciate it at the level the owner would. The common man could probably tell it's "nice" but little else.

You see, here is the thing, most of us would never dream of spending anywhere near that much on a watch, but that is due to our own personal financial status. If you were sufficiently wealthy, $100,000 would be to you as $100 is to me. Then, the whole idea of "cost" would take on an entirely different dimension. Can't imagine what that would be like because it would be a lot harder to dream if you could have anything you wanted. Hell, dreaming is the fun part. Once you own a dream, it becomes just another "thing."

I like the Carrera GT inspired watch. Although I worry that if I take it off the automatic setting, my wrist will violently shake left and right and hit the nearest wall, splitting the watch in two, which will lead me to sue Porsche for making a dangerous watch. Nope, I stick with my 18 year old stainless steel, entry level, Rolex

ROFLMAO

Yeah, I like the Bugatti watch but it might be a little embarassing walking around with all the hot young Gold Diggas hanging off my wrist.

bill,
maybe you want to consider one of the swatches? they make some cool chrono automatics that i thought looked auto-related

td,
in that case you need to find a watch that has only 3 units made (usually happens when it's made from a different rare/expensive) metal. then, you and your sons will be the only ones w/ that watch....
