Years ago I got 3 reckless all in under 6 months...going to court on the last one (for doing 90 in a 55), the only advice my lawyer gave me was... "bring a toothbrush". Luckily I didn't need it. Unfortunately it all really depends on the judge. It was in fairfax county, but a temporary judge from another district was on the bench. He gave me 30 days jail (suspended), year loss of license, and a $3500 fine! I appealed it, had a local judge, and ended up getting a $200 fine, year loss of license (suspended under the condition i didn't get a ticket for a year), no jail, and no points. (same local lawyer both times)

So hopefully you'll get lucky with what judge is presiding.

As others have said, get a good lawyer. Expect to pay $750 - $1000 for a decent attorney for such an offense. I've had two reckless tickets in NOVA and have been *VERY* lucky with both - no jail, no suspended jail, and no restricted or suspended license!

1st was a 93 in a 55 in Fairfax Co. (Happened about six years ago in my 3 liter 914-6). I had a very good attorney. They dropped the speeding charge, I pled guilty to reckless, and paid just a $100 fine. That's it.

Last one was just last year in Arlington, Co. in my 911. Got stopped doing 96 in a 40. It was on the GW parkway just before the Key Bridge, very late at night. Very stupid thing to do, I admit. Had an excellent attorney and an inexperienced prosecutor - dropped the reckless charge ( !), pled guilty to simple speeding and paid a $1000 fine.

I know I won't get lucky a third time, plus it's just a stupid thing to do, so I'm taking my need for speed off the street and to the Auto-X and the DE's instead.

Which reminds me: I spent last Saturday flying to Atlanta with my friend Eddy to pick up his new 2006 ZO6 Corvette. Six-speed, all aluminum 427, dry sump, 3,032 lb. car with 505 hp. We weren't even breaking 2,000 rpm at 85 mph (car is supposedly good for 198 mph although we never got above 90 on this 629-mile trip). But talk about tempting. The Valentine radar detector saved us at least twice; the highway patrolman nabbed another car both times instead of us. He was using instant-on once. We've traveled all over the eastern U.S. using the Valentine and never been stopped. Saved our butts numerous times.

Yup, I've generally kept my need for speed satisfied via autox, etc., but also gotta admit that the P-car sure makes backroads passing fun! Like I told myself 38 years ago when I got that last ticket, "Nevermore" -- meaning drive smarter, get a V1, & go to more autox's & DE's, too!
