Default Trade: My 944 S2 Transaxle for your 944 Turbo Transaxle

I need a turbo transaxle for a build I'm planning and have heard that my S2 transaxle is desirable for 944 turbo track cars. My transaxle is from a 89 S2 with 110K. Performs as excepted with no known wear.

Looking for a 1 for 1 trade.

What is the code on your S2 gearbox?

Please do. I have a rebuilt turbo gearbox with the LSD with Higher lockup (80%)Guard plates installed that is not being used. Would also want to know the breakaway torque.

Steve, can you confirm that if a differential is LSD, that turning one of the rear wheels will cause the other side wheel to rotate in the same direction. If an open diff, then the other side will rotate in the opposite direction. I also recall that a horribly worn LSD, with no effective lockup, might also rotate like an open diff.

The options sticker located below the hatch indicates that the car came from the factory with the AOS (No LSD).

Hoodpin previously owned the car and believes he swapped in an AOT (with LSD). Per his method, both wheels turn in the same direction when one is turned (see video - https://youtube.com/shorts/yNex4nnswCY?feature=share), which means the transaxle should have an LSD.

Typically that is the case if out of gear. A gearbox that is laying on the floor will do this and open diffs will spin opposite. However, I have seen dragging calipers give false results. Best way is to jack up passenger side so the opposite side wheel will not turn. An LSD should have some friction due to the clutch disks pressing against each other. It should need about 25lb-ft of force on the axle nut to break away for the stock 40% lock up. Anything less indicates varying degrees of clutch pak wear and need for a rebuild.

I'm a little confused as the narrator says he is moving it clockwise and the wheel in the video is turning counter clockwise. I'm going to assume that is because he is on the opposite side. The definite test is what I described in my response to Tony. The other major concern is that the box is from an S2 and not an S. (AOT vs AGR)They look identical on the outside but a whole different animal on the inside due to the larger R&P with a slightly different ratio.

That's correct. Clockwise on driver's side = counter on passenger side.

I can provide a video of what you asked for in the previous post. Would that work?

I'm ok with that. Just need to verify code stamped on the top and what the breakaway torque is and we can talk.
