Default Fabspeed tips or save up for exhaust?

I am (soon) going to have a 987.2 base cayman. I want to adjust the exhaust sound to be a bit more throaty - but don't think I need a full exhaust. I've heard Borlas on youtube and I'd be satisfied with 25% of that.

I have a chance to get the fabspeed tips. Note, these are supposedly more than just for the looks. http://www.fabspeed.com/porsche-987-...al-style-tips/ (play the youtube video, I don't think I hear a diff)

Instead, I can save up to get a full exhaust of some sort. But here is the thing: I don't want to spend more than $1000.00 either way. Certainly the tips won't cost that much - but if they don't make any noticeable change in sound and are just for the looks, well then this is pointless.

Another route I have is going to Mandrel Bending Solutions in Pasadena, MD and giving them a thousand to work some custom magic.

Thoughts?

Greg from Mandrel Bends opened his own spot in Westminster. He does all my custom work. Pipe Dreams is his new venture.

Good to know Scott. He did exhausts for two of my hotrods. He's really good.

Go to a couple of DEs (PCAP and others) at a local track and see what you like. This before you spend $$$

Autocross is another venue to see/hear exhausts.

Went to Mandrel Bending Solutions a few years ago (2011) for a custom cat-back Mercedes exhaust. Quality was very good and price came in lower than expected. They offered several grades of steel at varying price points. When I came back a few hours later to pick the car up, they had it waiting up on a lift so I could check out the finished product before driving off. A+

I have the Borla on my 05 Boxster S. Sounds great when you get on the throttle. There is a drone if you hover around 2700-2900 RPM. It isn't as loud on the track as I thought it would be.

Come to our Autocross on 6/25. My stock exhaust was modified by Cantrell motorsports. Great sound and very little to no drone.
