I'm genuinely interested in your professional opinion on the issue, then. Really, if there's actually no issue in getting on the pavement at race pace so soon after its laid, I'd love to come away better informed. (This is not sarcasm.)

Or, I can just lurk and wait for the day when someone uses incorrect terminology in the context of aviation, or national defense, and I could ridicule them for it (or, at least come off as ridiculing them for it).

But, since that is literally happening all over the internet at every given moment, if I did that, I'd never have time for the other stuff I enjoy - namely beer, porn, cars, bikes, and bacon (not necessarily in that order).

So, please, just tell me what the answer is... (again, not sarcasm - but the previous two statements DEFINITELY were )

...or, we can just have this whole conversation after the DE, following a few crashes, looking back in retrospect on the dangers of new asphalt?

VIR did a repave this summer and scheduled IMSA to race on it a few weeks afterwards. I know VIR was pleased with the way it held up and PCAP drove it the weekend after IMSA and it was great. I haven't heard anything negative since.

Most any plant would gladly open and cook for a job of that size.

The paving company I most often contract with shuts down November to Feb and the workers all beat feet for a long winter break. Seems this is not an uncommon thing in the industry.

There are many formulations and grades of "asphalt" paving. Not all are made using the unmodified dregs of petroleum cracking. Race tracks all over the world are paved and repaved and I suspect that there is some body of knowledge regarding methods and time frames.

sorry, I didn't see a question in your post, only a joke that paving might get deferred if weather goes south early...

What is 'race pace' for paving, as all will be driving on the same pavement? Will it be as fast as possible when brand new? Maybe, maybe not (likely not). As VG indicates, there are various asphalt mixes. These days there are special formulations for racing surfaces that have been developed. Asphalt sucks at resisting lateral loads, so it all comes down to the aggregate sizes and density, and the modifiers used. So what do you design the mix for, out-of-the-box grip or maximum durability? Chances are the new pavement will be fast initially, but not as fast as it will be after a bit of rubber gets laid onto the surface. When SP was repaved a half-dozen years ago, it seemed everyone turned new personal bests at our next event.

That was pretty much my point. I just went through the pavement curing requirements for resurfacing a runway. From what I understand the weight of aircraft (and landing gear arrangement) dictates differences in pavement mix and cure times that are vastly different than surface roads. I wonder where racetrack mix falls?

Even down in SoMD when 236 was repaved, they put temporary lane striping down because it won't take paint. If it won't take paint, how compromised is the grip?

I'd venture PCA DE is their first scheduled event, and not a national series race, for a reason. Paving is subject to weather, October is the height of Hurricane season, and WV is in the NW sector of any storm that hits the Chesapeake. The asphalt plants usually start closing mid November.

Fingers crossed.

Based on past performance at summit point the grip on new stuff is good.
As said lots of personal bests on the new pavement without lots of crashes.
