We used Classic Powdercoating in Gaithersburg. While the coating itself was fine the color match was not so cannot recommend them. We have some additional parts to powder coat so I'm also interested in the answers to your question.

Not quite MC, but I've used ASCO in Manassas for rollbars.

I'm just looking for a gloss black finish. Would you say they were OK for something simple like that?

BTW, Love all the RV variants...

There is AFI in Jessup
http://www.afipowdercoating.com/

Color matching powder is harder than paint (i.e. near impossible) so I wouldn't fault anyone for that. The only way to guarantee it is to buy enough of one batch to do everything (and probably even need to mix containers if doing that.) AFAIK, the color shifts w/ baking parameters too so its going to be hard to match even then.

Hard to tell. The color match was close but the real difference was the gloss. I realize it is hard to color match but glossiness should be easier to match. They are close enough and since you aren't trying to match anything else they are probably fine. The next parts for the RV8 will not be matching colors to anything else so I might give them another shot. Hopefully they won't have an issue with glossy silver.

I've flown a lot of different RV's inlcuding Dick's original RV1 when they did the nationwide tour before putting it into the EAA museum. Great planes. I'm building my third right now.
