The carpeted floor mats ARE required to be removed for track driving (at least on the driver's side).

Suggest when you fab the piece for the Cayman you bring it to a tech session and have it reviewed, as I suspect it will not be allowed on-track unless the inspectors feel it is properly anchored.

The chances of my carpets coming up during an event are slim to nada but if they did the chances of getting binding controls are high and the only difference is that carpet will flex some where as metal will not...FOD is FOD.

I'm not the tech chair, but this is my understanding: The floor mats must come out. The glued in carpet can stay.

I would guess this item falls in the former.
