Default Lining up the pulley with Z1...

All,

Here's a stupid question. I need to remove my Distributor on my '89 3.2, but before doing so line up the Z1 and TDC marks on the pully and rotor. I've put the car in neutral and attempted to move the pully clockwise by hand using the belts - no go (they slipped).

I then tried to get a ratchet on the pully nut and damned if I can get anything in there?! There's so little space between the face of the pully, and the engine compartment shrouding.

I'll need something pretty shallow to get at it. What is the correct combination of sockets, ratchet or breaker bar to get to that thing?

Warned you it was stupid.

Keith

Keith -

If a ratchet won't work then try an offset wrench. I didn't realize there was a difference with the 3.2's b/c I can get a ratchet on my SC.

If that fails I would think a small universal should also do the trick.

BTW, I've used two zip-ties before around the belts and cinched them tighter on the pulley's.

Good luck!

Keith--

The end of the main pulley shaft on my '85 has an allen-type socket. I have a large allen wrench to fit it. I think it's 5/8 but I'm not sure. I use it to freeze the shaft while I loosen the nut, but obviously it can also turn the engine. I can check the size of you don't have one that fits. But I don't know if the end of the '89 shaft is the same.

Default Got it!

Dan & Doug,

Thanks for the advice. I decided to tighten up the belt, and moved one of the shims around at the Alternator pully. TaDaaa.... crank pully now moves with the belt.

PS. No Cubans, but wifey did get me a Padron 1964 sampler for XMas. What a gal!
