POLICE SEEK WHITE CAR IN INVESTIGATION OF FATAL CRASH
Car described as an older model white Monte Carlo
Wednesday, May 15, 2013 5:30 am

PRESTON — Maryland State Police are looking for information on a car seen Monday
afternoon in the area of a traffic accident in which a Preston man was killed.
According to police, the crash occurred at 5:30 p.m. Monday on state Route 331 at
Tanyard Road in Caroline County.

Police said a 1996 Nissan 200SX was heading south on Route 331, approaching
Poplar Neck Road, when it crossed the center line and continued in the opposite lane.
The car then hit a ditch at Tanyard Road and overturned in a farm field, police said.
Caroline County Emergency Medical Services arrived and pronounced the driver, Jan Dekker, 37, of Preston,
dead at the scene, police said. There were no passengers in the car.
Police said the vehicle they are seeking has been described as an older model, white
Chevrolet Monte Carlo, a two-door passenger car, with the original style of Maryland
license plates.
Anyone with information on the car should contact Tfc. Gore at the MSP Easton Barracks
at 410-819-4747 or charles.gore@maryland.gov.

A notice of funeral arrangements will be forthcoming.
Dirk and his family thank you for your kind thoughts.

Thanks for posting Tim. For those who are interested, we are passing the hat to raise money to give Dirk a gift. Ostensibly, we have talked about covering all of his expenses for a trip to the Glen to be with his friends, but frankly we will give him the money and he can do anything with it that makes him feel good - a trip, engine parts, donation to charity, anything. PM me for the address and the details.

I don't have the words to thank you al for your kind words and sincere offers of help, tis is truly a nightmare without waking up. Trying to make sense of something which will never make sense. Jan came from a line of survivors myself after 3 Helicopter crashes and one plane crash, all but one due to mechanical and damage mostly due to where I was flying (crop dusting) His Grandfather also Jan died at 86 having survived WW2 in the Merchant Navy with Atlantic, Russian Archangel and Murmansk and Pacific convoys where his ship was torpedoed by the Japanese, 100 or so survivors were taken on board the sub and the whole lot were cold bloodedly murdered except my father and a couple of others managed to jump overboard (The Waves of Hate) has a chapter on him. My uncle, his brother Pieter was captured by the Japanese as a planter in Indonesia survived the prison camps and death marches in Burma, Malaya etc and finally shipped to Nagasaki where he was in the coal mines as slave labour when the bomb went off. He died at 84 in the late 90s. Jan only 37 for reasons we still don't understand.
My family Connie, Jan's mother Patricia and his sister Carla are sincere in thanking you. My sister is arriving this evening from Europe.
Thank you all
Dirk

My deepest sympathies to you Dirk. I'm so saddened by this terrible news. I've got some great memories of sharing a tub w/ Jan flagging the club race back in the day.
