I tried that. It didn't work.

Looks like PCA is letting the regions decide so not allowing them is not national policy.
Mark, I know your feelings in this, but at this point PCA Potomac's policy of not allowing suction cup mounts is not changing, and will be better enforced (i.e., cars going out could get brought back to the paddock so the suction cup mount can be removed).

I'm not looking to open up a debate here on Dorkiphus, just letting people know the current policy is not going away anytime soon, and at this point there are no exceptions.

I understand the whole "well THEY allow it" side of things, but if they allowed you to jump off a 10 story building...

And here's a fine example of something coming loose during a wipe out, fun starts at 1:05. ( fun at the Ring during tourist days, guess there's no tech? )

Dog forbid some 3 OZ item comes loose while the rest of the car is disintegrating around you. That would be unsafe!

Sure, but where do you draw the line? Are the guys at pit out supposed to be able to determine if it's a 3 oz camera versus a heavier datalogger vs a ??? And how well the suction cup is adhered?

Back into a wall with a decent head of steam, and what can the impact from the camera be like if the mount fails? Maybe nothing, maybe something, especially since face shields are not required to be down.

Drivers are asked to remove all loose objects from the interior, so why introduce something that can become loose?

It probably would not be an issue if they could be tethered, but then people would try and tether to suction cups.

Also, roll bar mounts are available, so they can be used just like the bigger, heavier video cameras that were the norm until recently.

The 2012 Tech Sheet includes the prohibition http://www.pcapotomac.org/images/PCA...acTechForm.pdf So if a participant or their shop reviews the sheet as was intended there should be no surprises in the tech line.
