Looking to spend $3,000 max for a paint job and minor rust repair.
Don't want a 10 foot paint job but does not have be garage queen status either. Want front and rear glass removed / installed so known small rust spots can be properly fixed. I can help in disassembly / reassembly or any other way that will increase quality per Dollar. Not changing the color. Must have experience with Porsches. There must be some quality painter looking for a project until something bigger comes along. Please let me know who's interested or any leads, so I can contact for a proper estimate. Thanks, Chris 73 911 E |

To be really honest, your askingh for a lot. Materials alone cost me 800.00 for the cheap stuff, 2000.00 for the good stuff. What rust repair is needed ? Post pics and I may be able to assist

Don't take it personally -- Chris is doing his best on his car with limited funding (and has been able to do a good job so far).
But I think $3k is going to be a 10-footer at best.

If you're willing to do the prep-work, you would be AMAZED what $3k can get you at Maaco....

They guy down in Richmond who painted my race car is capable of quality body work and painting and is inexpensive...but - you really need to be there to check. He left a couple of drips that anybody would have seen (he knew it was a race car) but my friend who recommended him and lives down there said if I'd been going by and checking, as he and others had for their cars, it would have been close to perfect. If you want to use him, I'd recommend convincing somebody in Richmond to go by every day.
All the above said, I'm very happy with the job he did esp. for the price. He really did the best work making my former sunroom seams invisible. From what I've heard, Scotty is a different league. If you can work a deal with Scotty where you could afford him by removing your own glass, doing some of the prep work, etc., you wouldn't need to watch him to get a very high quality job.

A quality painter is never "waiting" for another project to come along, you usually have to wait until they have an opening. I don't know if there are many decent painters that work at this price point that would have experience with Porsches. Quote:

I know a guy that works out of an autobody shop in Alexandria. He likes side work and his people are ok with him doing this nights and weekends. If you want something fast at least cost, he may be your guy. You have PM.

If YOU do all the prep work and just have a place prime and shoot it: $3k is totally possible for a pretty good paint job.
My brother and I did all the prep work on his 76' Triumph Spitfire and had it painted red with white stripes for around $2k. *Prep work is Hard Labor Intensive Work, especially if you need any body repair... Also you could do any final wet sanding to save on labor costs....

I agree with pnbell, but as he points out you need to do all the prep work. For someone who has rebuilt his own engine, and for a track car, you should attempt this and not because it would make a good dV article!! I've got HVLP spray guns if you'd like to borrow them. Rich F. makes a good point also; ask around and/or visit some shops... my experience is that you'll find someone willing to work with you, just spraying the paint while you do everything else. Lots of shops in Newington and Manassas.
