Same Sh!t different day again tonight after work. used the spare key in case this AM was a fluke, natta.

The battery was a 12.40ish v when I opened the trunk. I'm starting to think a slight drop of about .4-50 v from last idle to next start is normal. I also figured out how to replicate the non-starting symptoms with the key fully turned: just don't depress the clutch all the way. I can turn the key, then press the clutch in to the point where you can hear the switch and the car will turn over. If I release it before the starter has it going it dies.

I'll swear human error isn't factor in the AMs but could the switch be bad, and be temperature/current sensitive? Again the one commonality is that this problem happens only from a cold start.

I have not gotten to the ground wire yet due to scheduling.

Yes try not depressing the clutch tomorrow morning, turn the key, then push in the clutch hard.

Anybody else think the fault is ignition cut off switch at the clutch pedal? Or maybe the carpeting is blocking the clutch pedal going down far enough to trigger that switch?

Default Rich may have nailed it...

Clutch pedal cut off switch works when the plunger is extended (when pedal is depressed) Could possible be sticking in the switch and is possibly more of a problem when cold due to it having been sitting in the depressed position for a while) Same problem is relatively common for the switch on the emergency brake handle (same setup).

Depress pedal and let it slam back up a couple of times after putting a little lube on the plunger (it is about 2/3 rds of the way up the pedal towards the steering wheel). Or pull switch and check to see if the plunger is hanging up. Switch is removable by turning 90 degrees and pulling out of bracket.

I bet you could bypass the safety switch if you dont want to test it. I've had a few similar issues with automatics that have given me fits.

HMMMMMMM...

No obstructions, the carpet hasn't move etc.. But I tried not pressing the clutch petal while doing the first key turn, turned and held it, then I pressed the clutch in hard & deep until I heard the click and it turned over!!

After the morning car shuffle I worked the parked boxster clutch a few times, and then tried it and it fired right up again!

Battery voltage was a constant ~12.70v before cold start and after parking.

Anyone ever replaced this switch?

I've replaced/deactivated them on other cars and it was prolly simple. HArd part is locating and reaching the switch. Check your manual, it prolly has a diagram/pic.

Switch is cheap and it looks pretty straight forward.
