Totally agree that that little weight will make any difference to us.

I err on the side of more gas (but don't run with a full tank unless it's an enduro).

During a practice session, it helps to run the tank to 1/8th or less and then hit the scales. If you're under weight, ballast up the necessary amount and and then add in a half tank or so of gas. Do this for every race. I've never been DQ'd for weight with this routine.

Another POV. The only time I fill the tank is for a 90 minute enduro to avoid refueling. I had weigh the car enough times to know about how much gas I use in a 30 minute sprint (5-6 gal). I also always weigh the car after the last practice close to empty mark to check the weight on the particular scale at the track. I figure 10-12 gal less in gas would give me some advantage, even if imagined.

I always ran the 51 car so as to finish with about 1/4 tank in it. According to the fuel gauge, it would burn about 1/2 a tank in a 30 minute race. The car would actually turn better in slow corners with a little weight on the nose. Got DQ'd at my second race at Pocono in 2001 for being 5 lbs light when with under 1/4 tank of fuel so didn't make that mistake again.

On another note, I turned my best lap in the car in 2010 at the SP race with over 1/2 a tank of fuel. I know this because I would always start a sprint with a 3/4 tank of fuel.

..and then come into the hot grid and put your spare tire back in as was once observed.

little car:

8 gallons (full) = 53 minutes

Big car:

22 gallons (full) = 65 minutes.

Switch Mech I to carbs or carbs to Mech I, or engines for that matter, adjust accordingly.
