Default Heat back dating electrical issues??

I took the heater fan off the engine of my '84 Carrera to backdate the heat, But found the car’s heater/ventilation system wouldn’t work. Matt D. also told me running with out air passing threw the heat exchangers could raise engine temps in the summer.

Still want the simplicity and access that backdating affords. But also want the defroster to work (CR was very bad last year). So I’ve researching again a came up with this Pelican thread:

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/388445-carrera-removing-engine-compartment-heater-blower.html

Has anyone done this? Or if not does this look like a reasonable solution to still have cabin heat/ventilation?

All the Carrera/SC race cars I have looked at do not have heat exchangers; we are relying on Rainex anti-fog or some other half-assed technique to keep the windows clear. My heating system is completely non-functional, and I have not had any fogging issues in either warm or cold rainy conditions.

I was under the impression that by running anything other than racing headers you give up too much horsepower.

I have B&Bs with heat exchangers, w/dual free flow mufflers. Decent diameter pipes and ~equal lengths. Don't know if, or how much HP I may be losing but playing the cards I have for now. Besides all the heater crap can't weigh all that much

Although heat would be nice sometimes in a race car for defogging...a thin film of shaving cream or dish soap applied to the inside of the windshield works exceptionally well.
Ditch the heat crap...it's a race car.

Do you have auto heat (10 pos switch with no heat exchanger flapper levers) or manual heat (three pos switch with levers)?

4 position w/levers (0, 1, 2, 3). Wouldn't mind moving the entire thing to an easier to reach position either. Race seats encroach on room and drover gloves make setting it a challenge

TR,

I bought a ceramic heater that I could set on the dash when I had my SC. I drove the SC daily and the heating system was not great while sitting still, even with a new rear blower. The ceramic worked well as a supplement, especially when I got caught at work with freezing rain all day. I may still have it stashed somewhere...yours if I can find it.

Thanks! Kind of surprised you needed it. Our SC had great heat, and Carrera had good defrost (’87).
