I seem to recall there is a special type of pliers to remove those factory installed hose clamps on newer german cars. Anyone have a link to what I might be looking for? In using that tool, can I reinstall it as well? I'm working in a tight space and my principle concern is removal. Reuse would be nice.

Are you talking about the spring loaded ring clamps? There is a cable driven tool that lets you reach into hard to get places and pry the clamps open. the handle portion of the tool is remote to the head. Snap on, Favcon and UI think some others make them.

For installation, I made a tool similar to the Oetiker one shown by purchasing an end-nipper at Harbor Freight ($5.79) and grinding the sharp edges off so it wouldn't cut the clamp. But that Oetiker one looks pretty nice and isn't all that expensive. I did write about my experience (with photos), but I think it's buried in the race car build thread, and I don't have time to look for it.

Removal of fixed/1 time use clamps? A set of dikes. If you are removing hard to reach adjustable clamps the tool Vicegrip mentioned is very useful.
I think this is the version I've used

Thanks. I tried with regular pliers and couldn't get it undone. The I dropped the pliers and they are struck inside the panel near the wheel.
Dave I like the personal touch you provide. I did google on "german hose clamp tool" and the porn links I got back would make even you blush. |

I doubt that but from your answer I take it there weren't any

She could get the clamp off!!
Yes, hose to the headlight washer....fluid is leaking all over the garage and the low fluid light is mocking me! There's no room to work and the other end is buried way up under the bumper. |
