if they are going to donate the proceeds i wonder if you could buy the car and get a tax write off all at the same time..smile

Ummm...prolly not. AFAIK, if you receive something of value, its no longer a donation. The only way might be is if you could show that the amount paid is more than the market value, in which case the difference might be deductible. I'm not a tax expert....check with one before you put this on your 1040.
