Default tt popped its expansion tank

Was in Fredericksburg VA this morning and the TT blew its coolant expansion tank in a big & sudden way (darn new water coolers!). I pulled over immediately and called a buddy in the area to come get me. Now I need to go haul my trailer down there to rescue it (and return his car.)

Anyone want to come along for the ride to keep me company tonight?

Is the TT tank the same as a standard tank? If so I think i have one in the shop.

A million thanks to DR who kept me up (and not running though that stoplight!) Got the car unloaded, trailer stowed, and back to the house by ~1am. Even managed to get a neighbor drive by yelling at me, threatening to call the cops, as I unloaded quietly down the street

K, pelican shows it the same as the 01-04 996. Will try to dig into it more later today to see exactly what happened and what else I need to order. Sounds like the thermostat is under there too and maybe a good thing to replace WYIT.

I think the sensor at the bottom of the tank is for the water level. It is dry so don't look for an o-ring or seal. The tank is a major PITA to get out and probably worse on a turbo. A pair of remote hose clamp pliers will make your job much easier. Also, there is a mounting bung for the fuel filter that gets in your way. You may want to cut it off to get the tank out. My car doesn't use it for anything, although the C4 does. Turbo may be the same case. I would not recommend using spring clamps when reinstalling. Mine leaked and I found there was a TSB covering the issue with part numbers included.

i have part #996.106.047.56 It is slightly used, not yellowed out. It came from a car that had a oil leak and i stashed it as a track part for others after seeing how many fail at the track. You are welcome to it if it is a fit.

Glad you got it home safely. What and asshole for a neighbor. My community doesn't have one of those, thank god. Hopefully he will need your assistance in the future and you can remind him of his remarks.

Steve, thanks for the tips. I got a pair of those pliers after the boxster trans job.

Looks to not be the expansion tank. After some more digging, my '03 should have the later one that doesn't yellow (and mine isn't.) I took the filter/MAF housing off to see better. When I dump water in, it pours out VERY quickly. The bottom of the tank/lines are staying dry. Water is pouring out all over the top of the driver side bank. There are 3 lines that come off the water pump that disappear under the manifold. One of them must have popped off or split. Going to fire up the borescope and see if I can thread that back in there. Wonder if the engine has to drop to get to it.
