Today I received the pistons and cylinders. Everything is in hand and I can start putting it all back together.
Let the building begin Anyone who is interested in helping/watching, drop me a PM. I usually get a chance to work in the garage late evenings or on weekends. Here are a few pics. Wow - those pistons look like a work of art!
Congrats on the progress so far. Just think how great it will feel knowing that you've got all that new machinery pushing you along once you get back on the road. Unfortunately my next 3 weekends are filled with family stuff but if you are still working around the end of the month I might be able to swing by for a bit.

The pistons look too good to put in an engine. The scary thing is that the suspension and undercarriage are as clean as the engine parts Now whats that chain thingy for . . . . . Very nice work. Wanna do a 3.2 next

Not much is going to be happening this week other than checking the connecting rod bearing clearances and installing the new head studs.
I need to crank some numbers and possibly get the heads CC'd so i can dial in the correct deck height for these pistons. BTW: Has anyone had their 3.0 heads CC'd? If so, what were their volume? This will help get me started.

Who did you send the parts out to for your machine work? Was it difficult to get you case cleaned? I am sure that I will be facing this sometime next year.

Rick,
The whole top-end was sent to Competition Engineering in CA for general cleanup, spec checking and machining. Working with Walt was a truly awesome experience. His turnaround time is a little longer than other shops, mostly because HE does all the work. So make sure you have other things to do while you are waiting. Tell him what you are using for injection/exhaust and be specific as to what you want out of the engine and what your current/future plans are. He'll massage the heads, recommend cam grinds, CR's, etc. for your specific needs. Truly a custom/tailored job. I just did the top-end, so I don't know what else he'd do/include for a complete rebuild. For example: I'm keeping CIS, installing SSI's and wanted a good street motor with decent low/mid-range torque and strong pull to redline if needed. He opened up the intake ports and runners for better WOT flow, kept the exhaust ports std. to keep the back pressure up (for low/midrange torque). He worked with Elgin in choosing a cam and a CR bump is always nice (~10% per point). BTW: Porsche's CR values are about .25-.50 lower than specified. So hopefully, I'll have a nice strong engine that will pull hard from 3K to redline w/o pooping out at 5800K like the SC's are know for. Also, buy all bearings, gaskets, head studs, etc. from Walt. You'll know you are getting the best. His machining and parts prices are right inline with other shops. I sourced the P/C's from EBS. I had the 'disposable' Alusil C's and wanted to bump up the CR with the JE pistons. Unfortunately, the JE's will only work w/ Nikasil plated C's. EBS sent the C's out for Nikasil replating even though the Alusil was still fresh and in spec. P/C's look terrific. For cleaning the case, I just scrubbed it down and used a power washer prior to long block disassembly. Took the CIS, exhaust, shroud, fan/alt, plugged any holes and went to town. Liberally coated the case with castrol super clean, let it soak, scrub, and blast. Flip the engine, repeat. Turned out pretty nice.
