What setup are you using from primer and paint? I'm working on a 73 VW I'm thinking of trying to paint.

Acrylic Urethane frome TRINITY 1945
I know for the purist this is not the guard red

but this i can afford to do it myself.

i'm using a husky 30 gallons(I think) and important, a good spray gun so you can adjust air and paint. so invest in a good one(about$150 for mine)

____i'm using Acrylic Urethane because this is the kind of paint that as a novice you can take your time and do almost panel per panel at you pace.
and then you polish the all car and it looks like a pro!

Great work on your car! Thanks for positing the progress I look forward to seeing it along the way and finished up. (I hope that you understand unlike a soufflé old Porsche rebuild projects are never "done")

BTW, Will trade OK welding work for good French cooking.

Finally after a nice weekend and some free-time, i painted my car

With 2 coats of primer, and 5 yes 5 coats of paint!(it gives me plenty of room to buff it

The color matches almost perfectly!

Here are some pictures.

Nice job for DIY. The factory fiberglass targa top will fit your car (if you ever run across one) with very little modification. You can feel the original cut-outs beneath the vinyl covering of the windshield frame. They are about 28" apart IIRC. The only additional parts needed are 2 rose plates pn 911.565.221.40
