Default Does this mean my dizzy needs some work ??

Skippy was running a tad rough at high rpm on Sunday. I pulled the distributor cap to have a look a found a gash cutting across about 90 degrees of rotation. The only explanation I can come up with is that the shaft is wobbling, e.g. in need of some new bushings? Anyone care to comment?

Thanks

I agree unless the cap was locked down cock-eyed (dirt / debris on seat). How about comparing rotor that did this and old (new) one for quality mfg. problems (off-center, out-of-round).

That's easy to check. Fortunately, caps and rotors are cheap.

Can’t see real clear but it looks like the “posts” are OK. I would think that meant the cap was not seated properly causing the rotor to cut into one side of the cap. It still fired off the top of the rotor. I’ve seen the side clips not seat properly which lets the cap ride up on one side.

Check to make sure the clips are fully seated on there tabs.

I can't see exactly what you're referring to, but I didn't press my rotor on all the way and it did a number on the inside of the cap. Too a big chunk out of one of the posts and cracked the inside of the rotor. Could be as simple as that. If it looks like trauma (a crack), I would say it was something like that. If it looks like it wore down, you're thoughts on bad bushings might be the true culprit.
