Default CDR23 is skipping constantly

I have the stock CDR-23 single cd player in my 2003 boxster and since I got it has had an annoying problem skipping pretty much constantly while playing commercial cds. The cds are clean, and the road isn't usually that bad so I don't know why its dropping out.

Any ideas short of a replacement I can try to correct this?

Have you tried contacting Becker Radio about possible repair options?

Also, have you tried a cleaning cd for your player?

No I haven't tried a cleaning cd yet. I might go get one though if you think it would help.

I found that site, but it only says take it for service. I'm sure any costs would be enough to justify a replacement.

You might try calling Becker, too. I've heard they can be helpful. Also keep in mind that these OEM units are rediculously expensive to buy new. But they occassionally pop up for sale much cheaper when someone is swapping it out for something new/different.

Well, I'll give 'em a call on Monday, and I'll pick up a cleaner kit too. But I'm going to replace it outright if it would cost way more than a decent radio from a local store. I don't drive this car for the tunes.
