My first Porsche was an '83 SC. I spent six months researching and learning about which 911 would be ideal for a first Porsche. I desided an SC would be the right car. I found an '83 in DV swap and sell and went to look at it.....at night.......in the rain......and drove it around the block. OOOHHHH shiny red Porsche.....drool. Total deer in the head lights. After a PPI from Autothority, which theytotally F'ed up, I bought the car. What a POS! It was sold at a huge loss a year later.

My current car was chosen after a year long search of about 15 cars. One of which was an '89 Carrera with 72k on the clock beautiful white car. I passed on it because it had a full saddle leather intior. If I'd known then how easy it is to change the color of the interior I'd have bought it. I finally got a call from Taylor over at ASG telling me about an '85 Euro with 59k on the clock, black with black and tan interior. This was my car.

Found my '83SC the minute I got back from checking out a POS '80SC. Seller had come to Jim's engine drop and I was immediately in love with the car. Went over to pull lower valve covers and check headstuds the next Sat. and bought the car two days later.

I bought the 993 basically over the phone with no PPI - that's how confident I was that the seller was the most anal-retentive nut I had ever come across. And I was right. That car was perfect, as advertised. I only drove two other 993's before I found my blue one.

I looked at 50-60 cars, personaly looked at and drove about 8-9 of those. Bought one off of Ebay in Georgia that wasn't perfect but it was the best car I'd seen in my price range. '85 Targa Red/black. A/C and cruise.
Had 97K on the clock, two previous owners, garaged in Texas it's whole life, no paint work or accidents and was very nice. $14.5K

none. I knew my 911 for 15 years before buying it.. in fact the "test drive" was just a formality

Ditto ... except it was 6 years in my case.

This is a great topic (IMHO) and one that I thought about posting myself.

My first serious look at a Porsche was in 1998 and it was an 89 C4. Bought a '99 Audi A4 instead. I started renovating my vacant townhouse in early spring of 2001. The idea was to use some of the proceeds of the sale for my first Porsche. The rennovations lasted longer than I expected (about 6 months) but I always thought I was "almost done" and, consequently, cranked up the searches several times. During that time, I considered a '79 Turbo that had been converted to 3.2 NA by Ruf, an Orange '71 911T Targa (at Cherner Classics), and a '93 RSA. Finally bought a '95 Cab. So I was all over the place.

When I volunteered at a HPDC, I got a chance to ride in an instructor's 92 Cup Car (this one fully prepped for Club Racing) during the "instructor's playtime" and thought these had a pretty neat story. More recently, at the May DE, my instructor had a Euro Cup Car. So I now have a mostly stock Cup Car. I don't anticipate getting anything else any time soon.

Dreamt of 911 since highschool. At 21 discovered relative w/an old one sitting in garage. Spend 14 years wondering "what is he ever going to do with that p-car in the garage...."

well, that 14 years paid off. His grandkids passed it up in their first driving years. i asked, and i got the "family discount". Now it's my hunk of metal sitting in the garage.

Jim has talked me into dropping the engine before starting it. (PO says "bad knock" last time was running)
So engine drop is forthcoming....January I'll be looking for volunteers for tear down and help identify where to sink the $$$$. When do i stop going out to the garage to look at it? And how old before the kids start "helping"?

Of course, I don't think this will be my only p-car. why is that? who can predict the future?
