Default Prep for next season ...

So... Sunday was nice ... why not drop a motor. Pulled the 1600cc 4-pot out today. Trans-axle tomorrow or Tuesday. Ship transaxle off for refurbishment and wait to reinstall for next season.

Already have SSPI Racing first event: HSR Sebring 3/3/04-3/6-04

Here are some pics:

1600cc coming out

1600cc Out

Tomorrow I'll fight my way through the "Z-bar" and ancillary attachments to get the transaxle out. Here is a shot of the LR from center car underneath. For those not familiar (I'd guess 99%) a Z-bar is a sway bar of sorts that prevent the swing-axles from tucking underneath the car (going to positive camber and toe) under heavy braking and cornering. Swing axles pivot at the transmission ...the Z-bar forces one side or the other down onto the ground so there is no "tucking" and "rear-steering" And you thought 911s were "tricky"

Cheers,

Jase

Wow, that looks like fun, Jase! I wonder how long it takes to drop 1600cc's...pretty fast I'd bet. 2400 cc's is getting to be pretty fast around here. Especially when there's plenty of coffee and donuts...or for PRB for Richard.

Been there, done this... several times Z bars, now there's a blast from the past We have an interesting alternative on our 356. Called the Skirmit Camber Compensator & is a lot simpler. Linda and I learned the evils of swing axels the hard way on AutoX courses years ago She loved running the 356 at SP, especially in the rain, past all the 911s, even with skinny tires.

356 T6 (has drums now, but disks waiting in shop... like so much others)

Skirmants' camber compensator:

Wasn't available when we did the Z-bar. Here is Vic's description of the OEM S-90 camber compensator and it's "the myth" and the function of his product.
