Default Dorki in Excellence!

Doug made it the months issue of Excellence.........well, sort of. Doug, check out the add for Pelican Parts on page 103 of the December issue. In the inset showing the BBS one of your posts titled "Rebuild complete: Back in the car!" is at the bottom. So, what's it like to be famous?

Nice one, Doug!
Shame they coundn't show a video of the perfect first-time start up after your rebuild. OK, maybe a little smoky, but it ran like a swiss watch. Never forget the grin on your face, or the family coming out to celebrate!

Speaking of Excellence, there is a great article about the 944 Turbo Cup, how it started, why, etc.

They alos go into great detail how the factory set up there factory prepped 951 to compete in this series....Tony, you may be able to take away a few pointers for that extra edge (remove the rear window wiper and replace the factory mirrors with 924 mirrors to lower the drag coeff by .01).

And for Kurt, another great article about rodding Type IV VW's engines to make 180 reliable HP, for less than a std. 4-cyl p-engine rebuild.

Guess the free subscription paid off.....new subscriber here.

The first article I read. The Rothman's 944 story was the second.

Just my own stinking opinion but I will NEVER EVER build or mess with a non stock type 4! Having watched 2 go from good running to lumps of junk in 0.001 seconds is enough for me. Many have had better luck and there is a strong following for them but as Our Pres said. "fool me once...um..aah...shame on me or you. Um, err, is that fool me twice shame on Fla?"

I don't get Excellence anymore. Could someone post Doug's page?

Not the greatest shot, but you get the idea.

Since 'Hollywood' is already taken, what's Doug's new handle?

Thanks for the recognition fellas.

Seems like it was just yesterday when I posted that thread but in reality it was almost 10 months ago now

I have a copy of the ad in my rebuild book from the first time I saw it earlier this Spring. The part I also like is that it shows Wayne's name as the last person to reply 8)

BTW, I think the smoke has finally cleared from the start-up

Yeah the Type IV power myth is endearing until it bites you in the ass. With the featured guy (Jake Raby) you are gonna spend 10-15k at least to get any decent bump in power. Those Nikasil coated aluminum cylinders are around 2-3k alone. By the time you are done, you have a grenade that is as expensive as a decent 6 cylinder solution. Saw a Raby motor at the track with a hole in the case to prove it. People do get power out of them, but believe me they are rebuilding frequently to keep them from flying apart. But im not bitter about spending a small fortune and half a year building what ended up a roller....
