Default Wanted: Someone who knows what they are doing

It's obviously not me. I have a 1974 911 that really wants to be on the road but something keeps getting in the way of that happening. Me. I replaced the axles, rebuilt the calipers (new seals etc.) new brake pads and even new trunk shocks (okay so those weren't THAT important). I attempted to bleed the brakes, I'm a pretty smart guy (that's what my mom told me ) but I know bubbles when I see them and after adding and pumping out 20 bucks worth of brake fluid the pedal still goes all the way to the floor. The front end is a mess, I didn't know if it's the alignment in concert with the bent tie rod, but it's horrible. The left wheel sounds like a grinder. I already have new tie rods but after having the front wheels off to fix the brakes I guess I need at least new front bearings and maybe a new hub. I guess I'm out of my depth and looking for some help. I still have an estimated $1500 worth of repairs to the front pan and I'm running our of cash. My wife will surely kill me if I have another Porsche that I bought and can't drive. Help!

Thanks,

Pete

Anyone that's met me knows I don't know what I'm doing...anyone that hasn't can search on any of the threads I have started. If you get a bite, I'd be happy to show and bring the beer! There's a few of us now here in PWC, we can give those Montgomery County guys a run for their money. :P

sorry if this is out of line but.... do your calipers have 2 bleed screws?

i used a pressure bleeder (...Motive... brand) and had good luck with bleeding the brakes of a 914 that even has a brake proportioning valve still installed....

Not that I know what I am doing but...

Also check that the bleaders are facing up! This happens more often than you would think.

Get or borrow a motive bleader!

Grinding. pull the brake pads out, still making noise? Can you see something hitting? Are the hubs loose on the spindles?

No short cuts on the front pan if it is real bad. Gotta cut, weld and paint.

It sounds like other than the rust the other stuff is weekend project stuff. Feel free to give me a call at 703 598 8153 daytime. I work in Centerville and should be able to stop by after work sometime. right now I can't bring another project car into the shop or my wife will kill me. (she is with child, has Army weapons training and thus cannot be trifled with) For some reason she wants me to finish the house remodel before the next rugbug hits the floor. Go figure.

Just checked my calendar. I can also help out in the evening Wed or Thurs. I'm out of town this weekend though.

Thanks!

The first thing I'm going to do tonight is put the front calipers on the correct side! The bleed screws are now on the bottom (with this knowledge now I can tell the difference)

I bought a vacuum pump bleed kit even though I saw more positive impression for the pressure style.

Kurt, I know how you feel, I have a 3.5 year old and a wife who, at 22 weeks, is not putting up with my crap anymore, and I have two non working Porsches, one of them in her spot in the driveway!

I will be in the driveway every night this week so if anyone wants to come by I can feed you and offer alcoholic and non alcoholic libations. Has anyone ever done the tie rods? I would like to do that as well. I'm going to buy the stuff I might need (bearings, hub, blowtorch) so hopefully it will all be here.

The wheel makes the grindign sound when the caliper is off, I thought it was the dust shield but I think it may be something else.

Will the Sir Tools B-90 P2 work for the front wheel bearings?

Thanks for the support, PM me for directions.

Pete
