Default Suggestions for small milling machine

My lovely wife asked me what I wanted for Christmas. After the usual, just your love and devotion, she was looking for a real answer, so...

I wanted to learn more about machining. Rather than doing the conventional thing of taking a class, I was just going to buy a small milling machine and watch some youtube videos.

Any suggestions of small mills? Mini-mills from Grizzly, Harbor Freight, ? Or something slightly larger such as Grizzly or Jet?

What are the basic tools needed? Clamping blocks, dial gauges, assortment of drill bits and end mills?

Budget is $2500 but I don't have to spend that much.

Suggestions?
