Didn't read all responses but did you try the key in the other door? If problem in the door, it might just work in the other.

There is no keyhole in the other door in a 987.2.

I haven't looked on the Porsches but on a Volkswagen there is just a plastic cover with a slot underneath that can be carefully levered off exposing the key cylinder. Might be worth a try as well.

I'm still puzzled that the mechanical key won't unlock the door. Is the immobilizer on late model Porsche's supposed to work like that? I'm leaning towards someone doped the lock cylinder trying to get in.

Do you have AAA or Road Hazard coverage through your insurance or warranty. Some of those guys are pretty good about breaking into cars without the key. Without the correct tools, you could bugger up the car, gasket, etc. trying to do it yourself.

Here is an update: Using the second key didn't work either. The tow truck driver came and after deciding not to insert a tool through the window to pull on the interior door handles, we went ahead and towed the car to the dealership instead. The alarm did not sound when the vehicle was raised, so we think that the battery is dead. Still, why the key won't open the door manually no one can figure out. So it is up to the dealership now.

The tow service I used is Morton's in Montgomery County, MD. I have used them before for things and they have always been very good. Their driver took extra care with my car too. He raised up and set the rear wheels on trucks, then lifted the front with his truck, so nothing got damaged.

Happy to hear it safely left the hood. Look forward to hearing the diagnosis from the dealer. And x2 on Morton's Towing; they've been around a for a good while, and their trucks are always clean looking. We used them once. Class act.
