Anyone use the backside go/no go method? Downside?

Ordered a set of feelers and just want to make sure I can get them under the rockers. NooB at this and don't know what room is available to slide the feeler in until I get the covers off. Is there a particular length or style of gauge required?

I have used it and been successful. Had a recent experience where it wasn't as successful, but it wasn't because the method is flawed (I rushed it). I would do them first the normal way and then use the backside as a test.

The feeler gauge slides up from the bottom (or down from the top)...once you get it all apart you will see how it works...

^^^ Agree. I used the backside as confirmation after sliding the feeler in the normal way. I can bring over my Haynes and Bentley manuals. Between them, they explain things nicely with good photos. IIRC, I was most worried about being certain I was at TDC on each cylinder.

You'll need the long, flexible feeler gauges, I believe.

Anyone used that new tool on pelican. Its a version of a micrometer that sets lash by counting the adjuster screw turns. Its said to be spot on and really easy to set the lash.

My problem when doing the valves is being able to prevent the valve from turning while I tighten the 13mm nut. I forever end up tightening the valve and getting it out of adjustment. need to find a good tool to prevent that from happening or start to work on my hand strength.

Does it move even when your using a screw driver on the valve? If so, I can understand how Jazz's screwdriver can help hold it in place. Gotta buy another tool!
