I'm casually looking for an early 924. I don't have a big budget for the initial purchase but have garage space for a project car.
Edit: I am looking for a car that runs/drives. Chuck

Seriously, I had to LOL over this one. After many $K in repairs and updates ended up giving 2 of these away http://dorkiphus.net/porsche/showthr...&highlight=931
I'm sure as soon as Easter dinner is over others will see the irony in this!

Wow, a WTB 931. OK, they're cool but consider HoodPins 85.5 944 (http://dorkiphus.net/porsche/showthread.php?t=27544) with extras as a running prepared car will cost you less than a 924... did I say it's running? Often the recommendation is to buy the newest car you can afford. I would recommend a 944 over a 924. Consider a 924 has rear drum brakes and Excellence contributor Bruce Anderson even says stay clear of 931's because of the repair costs. If you insist on a 924, you might start at http://www.924.org/

Thanks, I'm keeping an eye on the 924.org board, Pelican classifieds, etc. Just thought I'd see if anyone had or knows of something local. I'll probably make the trip to Hershey next weekend [correction, April 21]. Yes, I should probably buy a well sorted 944.

There were very few 931s made, so parts are a serious issue (ask Trak Ratt). Agree with the 944 mentioned above. You can do PLENTY to a running car to keep yourself busy and make it better.
If you want a project, I'd suggest one of the several 911s out there that keep popping up. Once done, a much more valuable car (and cheaper to keep up) than a 931.

Chuck,
Check eBay Motors > Other Vehicles & Trailers > Race Cara (Not Street Legal) > Road Racing. 1980 Porsche 924 Turbo Street/Track Car Project. It's in Ohio and is at $400 with 4 days left in the auction.

^ you should e-mail that guy and find our where he got the exhaust manifold. It ain't stock and replaces prolly the biggest Achilles heal of the design. You won't find many if any stock ones that aren’t cracked. When I was in to these there were only 9 NOS ones left in the and world and they were ~$1,000+ shipping from Germany.

Some might share that the cheapest Porsche to buy is not the cheapest porsche to own. imho, you really have to want a 924 to spend the time and money to make it whole again. That said, I'll keep on the lookout for any I come across.
