Tonight was the night. While I'm waiting on parts for the engine, it's time to figure out how to gain a few inches of headroom. Rather than plan and think I like to cut and weld. Here is the cutting portion.

I still need to fab the new mounts, but it looks like I should gain at least 2.5-3 inches when I'm finished. So far this has turned out easier than I thought. I'll post more pic's when I figure out the mounts.

Dude, if this works out we need to talk. I real sick of my stupid "lets raise the seats rails in 85 for no apparent reason" car. With the new RSA seats, I'm a tad higher than I'd like to be.

Any issues with the fuel line?

The fuel line is in the tunnel, right? I havent welded it up yet, but it should be a problem. I just cut the rails from the top, I'll take more pic's if it will help. My real concern was the engine harness and dme under the drivers seat, it's just close enough to warrant some care.

I’m in the process of mounting seats lower in my SC too and it’s turned out to be a lot harder than I thought. I finally decided on floor mounting similar to ‘44s. After fabing new brackets I remembered that 356 restorers have neat little seat mounts, with threaded tops that are simply welded to the floor for a couple of $$.
For those contemplating roll bars/cages or harness bars, at 70” tall I have trouble with head room wearing a helmet in a 911 sunroof coupe. Seatback positioning is limited by the crossbars.

Fuel line is in the tunnel I’ve read somewhere that the mid year Carrera’s have a spacer under the seat rails (?).

Big caution on the fuel lines and harness. I was sweating for many days because I thought I melted my harness into a glob. I pulled it to make sure in the middle of the project and finished the welds. In my car there are conduits built into the tunnel to accomodate the wire harness and fuel line. Luckily the fuel lines are in the top corner of the tunnel on the drivers side so my welding on that side was actually below the conduit. The conduit for the wire harness on the passengers side is lower.

There is a thread on Pelican about my questions. Someone actually posted pictures of the inside of their tunnel which was great reference, at the right time to give me the confidence to proceed.

If anyone wants, come sit in my seats. I don't think they could get much lower.
