After reading the some of the following posts on Pelican (http://forums.pelicanparts.com/showthread.php?t=497327)
I wondered how many of us have some sort of shifting problem. I know the so called rebuilt transmission I bought two years ago (and only al few thousand miles) has problems entering second gear. I have a 150K mile transmission on the stand that I am going to try to FIX, rather than rebuild, to see if I can get my smooth shifting back. Comments? ARF

I recently installed a "Charlie" brass shifter coupling bushing and of course had to adjust the coupler upon reinstall. I am impressed with the improved precision. I can't understand why Porsche made the OEM oval. I used to have to be very careful to avoid crunching anything. Now, as long as I remember to stop and touch 2nd before going into 1st, all is good. On very rare occasions, (like twice since new coupler) it can be hard to pull out of 5th. I would still not consider it a fast box by any stretch, but between replacing the pedal cluster bushings with bronze, replacing the shifter coupling with brass, and putting in Redline gear oil (horrors), driving the Baron smoothly has become much less tedious. (knock on wood)

Newest 915 equipped cars are 23 years old now. And 915 shift mechanics have roots all the way back to the 356 era. Every Porsche I’ve had whether 356 box. 901, 911, 915, G50 or even the Sport-o-matic needed new bushes from the shifter all the way back to the coupler. And a complete linkage adjustment. All benefitted from new throttle bushes and cables, clutch cable and new trans mounts too. Things just don't last forever no matter what you grandpa said about his anvil.

Loosen the clamp on the shift coupler (the 13mm bolt and nut), twist the shift coupler fully with the top towards the passenger side door, and the shift lever fully towards the driver door (this is a LOT easier to do with 2 people, although I've done it myself), and then tighten the 13mm bolt and nut in the shift coupler. I suspect you are in the wrong spline now, and the above should set it correctly in the correct spline.

I'd look in the manual and follow the instructions carefully...
If that doesn't work, take it to Matt D.

If you didn't mark the fore/aft and left/right postitions on the coupler and rod, then I'd suggest starting from scratch. See following atricle:
http://www.pelicanparts.com/techarti...provements.htm You may also want to carry around a 13mm wrench and make minute adjustments as you drive until you find the "sweet spot". Good luck....
