Default Oil Change

I've always paid to have my oil changed and I'm going to start doing it myself. Ordered all the parts but wondering what is the true amount of oil that I should buy and use during the oil change. I've always purchased 12 quarts of oil and just want to make sure not to overfill.

Thanks,
John

Yes, start with 10. And make sure you've got a catch pan big enough - ask me how I know.

X2 and for the catch pan too. Total amount depends on cooler too. But starting with 9/10 qrts. is what I do.

I always buy 12 qts and usually end up using just about 11 qts and so I have 1 extra that gets used between then and the next oil change.

John, when the guys at intersport showed me they first put in about 9 qts, ran the engine a bit and allowed it to heat up, then measured with the dipstick. Continued to add unitl it was where they recommended. They told me the goal was to get it about half way between the markings on the dipstick. i think the difference between the markings in a bit over a quart. I am in manassas and while not in town this weekend, happy to swing by if you need help. tito

If you've never done this before don't forget you have to drain oil tank and engine before adding. It's been for like ever, but the first time I did this I forgot to drain the engine

Well, I'm sure yo had lots of other things on your mind at the time. Like delivering lots of toys to all the girls and boys. And posing for your annual holiday avatar photo...
