Rt 211 Over the Mountain
This road goes from Sperryville, up past the entrance to Skyline Drive and down into Luray (and back again). It's great when there is no traffic; very late on a moonlit night. But watch out for the blind turns and deer lurking in the roadway, and for semi-experienced motorcyclists who don't know their limitations. Remarkably, the State has decided to install rumble strips leading into some of the hardest turns. Apparently some bureaucrat believes this is a good way to warn people that they need to slow down for these turns. It seems that the last thing you would want to do to a vehicle (especially a motorcycle) already driving near the limit going into a hard turn is to upset the vehicle's balance by throwing rumble strips into its path. I expect that this will increase the number of fatalities on this road.
