Default Rally Lights?

A friend bought a ’73 T 2.4 w/MFI (early ’73) yesterday. Though rusted it came w/several neat accessories including: steel S bumper, a real nice set of early “sport seats”, SSIs w/lamda fitting, 5 very nice 6x15 Fuchs, original fog lamps & original “rally lights”. Plus a ton more MFI parts, seals & gaskets. He found it taking a short cut around some traffic in College Park, paid $1K for the whole shooting match including extra fenders, engine lids, heads, cams & a secound FG S spoiler.

The Rally lights are the ones mounted through the horn grills! Externally the RLs look great, but the internal reflectors have rusted & fallen apart. Question – anybody ever hear of a source for NOS replacements reflectors or possibly something else that might work The reflector is actually separate from the case.

Come & craw! He has this car & another & is parting out both so MFI is available. There is 1 additional pump, a full set of injectors from manifolds to air cleaner w/cross bar & at least 1 full set of linkage pieces. Also has an additional set of butterflies. I’ll be working on an original Mini’s brakes tomorrow night & replacing the rear seal & clutch on my son’s Miata Friday & Saturday. Also want to help Eric’s w/his Volvo, so come on by if you want 8)

Anybody know about the lights… anybody… anybody at all?

Dave, who made the lights? Are they the Hella 118s (5") or a larger Cibie light. the cibie parts are still available. I am not so sure about the Hellas. I think the reflectors were plated glass on some of the early lights. Some of them were chromed. Replating/chroming would be the best way to fix them.

Any pics to help ID the lights? Any markings?

If the mfi stash includes some Mag stacks I may be intersted. I am having delusions about my 3.0 built to RS specs.

Jaime, good to hear from you again! They are the smaller Hella’s. The reflectors are broken, totally.

Separate topic: my friend has 2 complete sets of early chrome door & window frames. Are you still in the market? There’re from ’71 & ’73 coups.

Hope Texas is all you hoped? Been there, done that.

Texas is nice. There are some fantastic roads around Austin. Margie and I have been exploring to the tune of 150 miles a weekend through the hill country. The 80 deg weather is nice too, even creating a need for sunscreen. I think the targa top would be permanently out of the car except for the fact its parked at the hotel.

I am not really in the market for the frames since I PC'd mine. I guess if the price was right I could go back to the originals. Of couse, the thought of installing new quarter window seals is a good deterant. I had a heck of time fitting those.

I am not aware of any source for reflectors. you may see if Hella has a similar sized light that you could swap reflectors. If not, the cibie Tango 40s are almost identical. Greg has a set on his car and they look great.

Btw, nice find on your friends early car.

Jamie, Austin is a great town. Make sure to visit Moorespeed. Who knows - you may see real ST in the garage. The chief mechanic, John Dwyer, worked in Denver for Grady Clay back in the 70s when my car was modified.

hey Greg,

One of the guys in town mentioned the ST. It was there a few weeks ago getting final preps for RRII. I was thinking of making it there tomorrow since I have the day off.

Its funny they way people consider the heat. Several people I have met mentioned the summer heat in DC. The described it as unbearable. I didn't always think it was too bad. maybe when wearing jeans and long sleeves running the welder. that was a bit warm.

How is the engine coming along? have you bolted up any MFI goodies yet?

Jamie, the car has reached its maximum level of disassembly for this
project. In addition to the engine being out, the trailing arms are off
(bushing and bearing replacement), the tranny is in pieces (mainshaft seal
replacement) and the rear windows and interior are out (rollbar install).
Cleaning and reassemblying is all that's left.

I decided to leave the MFI install to next winter. The only Right Way to
do it is have Gus recalibrate the pump for the 2.8l displacement. Anyway,
I wanna drive the car!!
