Betty,
It's not hard to do (repair that is) All you'll need is some resin, catalyst, and fiberglass cloth. All of these things can be purchased from Home Depot. I'll be happy to walk you through it or do it for you provided the beer is cold. Ted

I got 2 stories, one about driving, one about mechanicing.
The first one goes like this. I'm chasing Jeff Adams, #23 car. The 23 car is a 911 Carerra just like mine, but has headers and straight thru muffler, so has more power than my stock exhaust 911. Jeff is pulling away from me on the straights. But the 23 car has STOCK BRAKES! I can outbrake him and can catch him in 1 and 3. We go around and around for what seems like forever. Finally, Jeff catches Chris Prack and gets a pass. Chris is driving a BLUE 944 car (in back). As soon as Jeff passes Chris, Jeff looks in his mirror and what does he see but a WHITE 944 right on his butt! So he wonders where the heck did this car come from and gives the WHITE 944 a passing signal! Of course, Chris's car is White in front and Blue in back, so it's the same car. Meanwhile, Chris gives me a pass. So now Chris has signalled a pass and Jeff has signalled a pass, so I figure I'm good to go and pass them both. Hah! The second one is a cool 914 story. Frank Starr's 914 died on Friday - it just wouldn't run right. Frank diagnosed it as electronics and moped around all day Friday and part of Saturday. He pulled all the plugs and lined them up alongside the car like for a funeral. Everyone carefully inspected the plugs and pronounced judgements. At some point on Sat, Frank spotted Dave Coleman. He attracted Coleman's attention. Frank explained the electrical gremlin theory to Dave. Dave huhhuhed and told Frank to start the engine. Then he asked Frank for a screwdriver. Frank gave him a swiss army knife. Coleman reached in, twisted a screw on the carb, went to the other side of the car, twisted another screw, and hopped back and forth a couple of times, twisting screws. Then he reached in and unscrewed something, pulled a little thing out of it and blew it clear, and screwed it back in. Then he went to the other side, and did the same thing. Then, and this is the amazing part, he reached in, grabbed the throttle lever, and pulled. The engine screamed! Waaaa, Waaaa. Coleman said, "have a nice day", and walked away. Engine was fixed. Frank had been visited by God. Frank made the mistake of chasing after Coleman to thank him. Dave proceeed to lecture Frank for 20 minutes on tuning weber carbs. Then Dave had Frank take his car out and run it hard and bring it back in. Coleman then pulled all the plugs and inspected their color. "Motor's running rich". |

Classic Dave Coleman story, Bob. He's an original. I had the privilege of having him rebuild by brake calipers one Sunday morning last year, after you sagely noticed my reservoir was empty. He knows what he's doing with a wrench.

Betty, from the quick look I made at the track you have more of a fiberglass to metal fail rather than a fiberglass repair. The plastic filler will have to be chipped off and the glass reatached to the existing body then the body re filled and formed. Little glass work needed. The fender metal looked slightly bent on one side as well and it will need to be fixed prior to refastining the chin. Depending on how picky you are and how much time you have (VIR!) you can chip, rivet, and bondo everything up in an evening or two. Not to Eric s standards but when you are in the car and on the track you will not feel it. Easy quick fix now then do a perrdy fix when you get it all dolled up in pink.

Jim, Your pics in the gallery are awesome. Terrific job. And a special thank you for not posting those shots of my car surrounded by a blue cloud as I slid into turn 5 a couple times.
Great closer with Dino, too. Bill |
